Hospital (H) Terms
NEATS provide monthly teleconferences for Hospital Registrars, subject to roster considerations.These teleconferences provide networking, peer support, general medical advice (on any topic) and education.
Basic (B) and Advanced (A) Terms
During Basic and Advanced General Practice Terms, educational activities include:
Practice
- Development of a learning plan within 4 weeks of term commencement.
- Direct observation of Registrar consultations with constructive feedback.
- Videotaping of Registrar Consultations with subsequent analysis.
- Basic: 3 hours teaching per week including 1 hour direct face-to-face teaching
- Advanced:1.5 hours teaching per week including 1 hour direct face-to-face teaching.
- Learning by apprenticeship. * please see below -changes in 2008 -for Registrars in the 2008 cohort.
Teleconferences
Monthly midweek teleconferences of approximately one-hour duration are organized. The active participation of all registrars is encouraged. Educational resources which support these teleconferences are provided electronically.
Educational Releases
Monthly day releases are held throughout the NEATS' region. The NEATS' Medical Educators take a broad view of what is educationally relevant and appropriate for Registrar educational release activities. Registrar participation in regional Continuous Medical Education (CME) activity is actively encouraged and supported.* please see below to changes in 2008.
In support of this, strong strategic links have been developed with each of the Divisions of General Practice in the region.
CHANGES IN 2008
IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR 2008 INTAKE OF NEATS REGISTRARS AND THEIR SUPERVISORS
It is advised that registrars entering GP training on 2008 and pursuing the FRACGP pathway will now be trained under the 2005 RACGP Standards for General Practice Education and Training ( available at www.racgp.org.au/vocationaltraining/standards) from January 2008. Please note: To date: if you commenced Vocational Training with NEATS prior to 2008 your conditions will remain unchanged.
Day Release/Workshop
NEATS now runs 5 day and 3 day workshops instead of single day releases throughout each term. Teleconferences remain as before, that is, on a monthly basis.
