Selection and Placement

Selection

Selection for entry into Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) is a competitive, phased process. The following is a general overview. More detailed information is available on the AGPT website on www.agpt.com.au

The first phase is a sorting process which assesses an applicant's eligibility for entry into AGPT. Eligibility criteria must be met before an applicant can move forward to the interview phase. To be eligible the following criteria must addressed:

  • Citizenship;
  • Medical Qualifications;
  • Medical Registration; and
  • Training Program Registration.

The second phase, after acceptance into the AGPT program by General Practice Education and Training (GPET), is the interview with your potential RTP. In this phase the Medical Educators (MEs)from the various Regional Training Providers (RTPs) interview applicants for admission to their RTP.

There are three rounds of interviews for admission to an RTP. During these phases applicants can accept or decline an offer.

Handwritten applications can be submitted however on-line applications are recommended. The on--line application form is accessible through the AGPT website: www.agpt.com.au

Placement

Registrars who have accepted a position with NEATS will be able to apply online (twice a year , April and September) for a position at the Practice of their choice. Online application involves logging onto the website, which will take Registrars to their secure page and clicking onto the link to the online application form. When this form is completed, by  following all the prompts, upload your CV (at the discretion/choice of the Registrar) . Applications can then be viewed by those Practices seeking to employ a GP Registrar.   Practices may invite preferred Registrars to apply for a position.

If Registrars or Practices need assistance with any stage of this process NEATS will assist.

NEATS  reserve the right to direct Registras to certain Practices for reasons of equity, education  or individual needs.
