Our region is renowned for its warm year round Mediterranean style climate and supports the richest agricultural producing shire in Australia.
Local cropping includes cotton, cereal crops such as wheat, barley and sunflowers, pecan nuts, olives, sheep and cattle. We can even boast a winery or two. Mountainous bush land, deep gorges, open plains and rolling pastures make up the diverse and picturesque landscape of the north west. At night, the sky becomes a blanket of a million stars. The area offers climatic variety from the warm winters of the plains to the ‘four seasons’ of the tablelands.
National Parks and State Recreational Areas are within easy access of all towns offering fantastic views, bush walking, camping, rock climbing, abseiling, canoeing and peace and quiet. A variety of water sports are on offer from fly fishing in the tableland streams to water skiing on Lake Keepit, Copeton Dam and various large irrigation dams. Hot mineral spas are a great attraction at Moree. All centres offer strong sporting competitions in numerous sports. People are attracted to our area by our rural lifestyle ─ wide open spaces, a less hectic pace and the friendliness of the people.
Tamworth and Armidale can offer all the facilities available in major cities: restaurants, theatre, music, cinema, university campus, excellent schools both public and private and quality shopping. Regular air services are available to Sydney from Tamworth, Armidale, Moree, and Narrabri, and Countrylink rail services run from the major centres to Sydney. The coast is as close as a 3.5 hour drive from some centres.
